Kantan Food was founded on the notion that traditional Malaysian cuisines must be protected. The founders, mother and son duo Ming and Aunty Annie went out of their way to infuse the wonderful tastes of Malaysian culture in their instant pastes. Upheld by over 40 years of cooking skills and perfecting the recipe, Kantan now shares their tightly-guarded recipes of heavenly readymade pastes with everyone to enjoy.

The Challenge

During simpler times, Ming (founder) worked a full-time job as a caterer for 2 hostels. All was good and well until schools had to close down due to Covid-19. Like headless chickens, affected workers had to resort to other means of business so survive. He took a leap of faith with his mother, Aunty Annie to start their own authentic Malaysian instant pastes.

Soon enough, they had repeat orders coming in and business was lucrative. But before long, they realized reaching a wider market was difficult due to social distancing. Not wanting to risk their hard work, Ming and his mother decided to dive into digital marketing.

Delving into the digital world of online selling led to other challenges. Considering the shipping and transportation of their readymade food pastes, they had to pursue packaging possibilities to maintain product quality and security.
